Chiropractors treat people using spinal adjustment and manipulation, acting on the belief that many illnesses are caused by a mis-aligned spinal column. Chiropractic is a holistic approach to health care, which includes awarness that exercise, rest, diet and environment all contribute to health and well being. Chiropractors offer natural, nunsurgical and drugless health treatments, and focus on the ability of the body to recuperate naturally.
The term "adjustment" refers to the specific manipulation chiropractors apply to vertebrae that have abnormal movement patterns or fail to function normally. Muscle and ligaments stretch, blood circulation increases, and nerve fibers fire rapidly at the moment of the chiropractic adjustment. Chiropractic is not a cure-all for all back problems. Sometimes chiropractic adjusting is not indicated or successful. Some back problems require other treatment interventions including surgery. |
